He was back on Levita.
He tried to move but his head hurt. Ito was standing over him and another man who he recognised as the manager of the complex was kneeling next to him on the floor. The man injected him with something, and his whole body started burning.
âAh, sleeping beauty, waking up at last, for a while I thought I had hit you too hard,â Ito laughed.
Brown was in a dimly lit, dingy room. He tried to move again, but to no avail. Whatever they had injected him with was taking effect immediately and he could not move a muscle.
âI think itâs taken effect, he canât move,â the other man said.
âHow long will it last?â asked Ito.
âSeveral hours, long enough for us to finish our job. Iâve given him enough to stop a large animal.â
âBut he can hear me alright?â
âOf course. Thatâs the beauty of it. He can feel pain, but he wonât be able to move a muscle.â
âJust the way I want it,â laughed Ito as he kicked Brown hard in his stomach.
Brown winched, at least he wanted to, but his facial muscles were totally immobile. The man and Ito bellowed with laughter.
âSo you thought youâd just come here and steal my girlfriend did you?â Ito kicked him again. âWell your fate was sealed the day you met her.â
Brown looked at him. The pain was unbearable, some tears spilled out from his eyes. At least they werenât going to get his money.
âOh! I bet youâre thinking, why are they doing this? They havenât got the money yet,â said Ito as if reading his thoughts.
Whatâs happening, have I totally miscalculated? Brown thought. He had thought he would be totally safe until he parted with the money and the trip would be of no danger to him.
âAre you sure youâre going to get the money?â the other man asked.
âThe director of the bank is arranging it right at this moment. It will be in my account as soon as I get back to Central City and tell him the coast is clear.â
Brown couldnât believe his ears. So they had it in for him as soon as the money had arrived in the bank.
âWhy donât we get rid of him now?â asked the other man.
âNo, thatâs too easy for him. I want him to suffer. You will deliver him outside the perimeter so the tribe can have him. Itâs about time we fed them some live meat again.â
âYou think of everything.â
âYouâre in touch with them?â
âOf course. Actually Iâm delivering some supplies to them today. Theyâll get a nice surprise.â
âAnd youâre going to get a nice surprise,â Ito spoke to Brown again. âWell actually quite a nasty one, when they chop you up limb by limb to eat you raw.â
âWell they are a bit more civilised these days, they will roast him first.â
âIâll be on my way then, if youâre sure you can take care of things here.â
âNo problem, leave it to me. Iâll take him out there once youâve taken off.
